Environmental Care

Undeniably speaking, Philippines now is much prone to natural calamities such as flash floods, earthquakes, landslide and soil denudation which definitely rooted to massive destruction of properties and caused large number of casualties compared in the previous eras. Almost every year, multiple reports made indicated that Philippines is again experiencing these tragic calamities. Hence, Philippines is the most affected territories when the mother nature is taking its revenge from the malpractice exploitation of the natural resources.
Environmental Care
Our country's environmental condition has now being deteriorated due to the excessive abuse by the people. Even air and water now is being polluted due to improper ways of garbage disposal. Throwing of garbage anywhere is being practiced now by the people not even bearing the consequence if they keep on doing it and much worst, they will take it as a habit. On the other hand, I must say that  Illegal logging here in our country is very rampant  and I even see it with my two naked eyes big trucks carrying large pile of logs. Do these people have a moral conscience or they are just blinded from the lust of money ? When will Filipinos learn caring and preserving our environment?
On the eve of December 16, 2011, Cagayan de Oro experienced a tragic typhoon signal number 2 which caught the eyes of the local and national televiewers as well also people from the other countries. I have never expected that the water level immediately rising up  from the knees, then up to the hips and surprisingly, it even reached at the top of the houses. Our place was not that affected compared to our neighbors from the other barangay and I'm thankful of that but at the same time I pitied those who were affected. I was  sleeping soundly at that time when the heavy rains poured. I was shocked when I woke up that many of my fellow kagay-anons were found dead and some were still missing. I didn't know what to say but just to sympathize those affected families.
On the following day amidst of the tragedy, I was forced to go to school since my NSTP students were waiting for me to have our Christmas Party. When we were already at the highway, I saw people who were crying, walking barefooted and the worst part, I saw dead bodies lying on the ground. I was speechless that time and it seems my heart was falling apart and about to cry.
When I already arrived at the school, the ambiance was very solemn because of  the tragedy. Some were in group talking about the flashflood and some chose to be alone and thinking the safety of their loved ones.
This tragedy indeed gave us a hint that we should care and protect our environment. If we don't want to happen this again, we should start preserving our mother nature. We should throw our garbage from the thrash cans. We should not cut trees instead, we should plant more trees. We should do the 3R(Reuse, Reduce and Recycle). We should cooperate and help one another to clean every canals and drainage for it serve as a passageway of the running water.
However, this tragedy marks a difference of what Kagay- anons are. Even amidst of this traumatic event, Kagay-anons were still showing a sense of  resiliency and continue moving forward. Let's practice "Environmental Care".
